The Dalmore 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Be the first to review this product Aged for 18 years, this whisky earned a Gold Medal in the International Wine & Spirits Competition. $ The 18, as The Dalmore refers to this release, displays an age statement of 18 years. The first 14 years of this single malt’s existence are spent aging in American white oak ex-bourbon casks. This portion of the process is fairly standard in terms of many Scotch whiskies. Dalmore is a great brand and has very nice drams. The 18 is very good and complex but lacks some ABV. This is bottled at 43% but you’re missing a little needed punch and the dram feels light on the palate with a medium finish. It tastes like an older Dalmore but isn’t worth the money. Dalmore's stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Richard Paterson for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky. Bottled at a slightly stronger 43% ABV (86 proof) than the 12 or year expressions, The Dalmore 18 is a memorable affair. This one is quite dark fruity on the nose, with lots of plumminess.
Fresh plum, chocolate syrup, chocolate covered raisins, coffee, tobacco. Very full sherry presence throughout. Continued tobacco segues into the finish.
Dry, with a soft bitterness. Barnyard-must and hay is rounded out by prune as it all gives way to fig hanging around in the back.
Palate: Full bodied and robust with small tingles of spice. Red currants and sour cherries blend nicely with more prune. Salted tangerines tighten the palate before wood finally shows through on the finish.
The Dalmore 18 Year is a delicious whisky. Every whisky lover should definitely try The Dalmore 18 Year at some point, but it is best left for ordering at the bar one night with a friend.
Whisky Review: The Dalmore 18 Year. Read More Whiskey News. On the nose and palate, however, this one is quite distinctive from the rest.
After some time in the glass, however it was as if my brain reorganized itself, suddenly recognizing these flavors as more barrel char-forward, revealing a nose that is heavily influenced by dark chocolate and coffee in particular.
Cigar or no cigar, this one is wonderfully distinctive. This one is quite dark fruity on the nose, with lots of plumminess, chased by orange, vanilla and cinnamon.
This one is like coffee cream , quite rich and decadent, but with a lingering and slightly hot cinnamon spice that gives it a bit of a kick.
Viscous and oily on the palate, this feels texturally like something that would be expensive. On the nose I get more plum, but also biscuity malt and lots of roasted nuts.
This is a particular nutty and toasty dram, with vinous qualities as well. The fruitiness carries over onto the palate, with syrupy dark berry notes that pair with maple and spicy gingerbread, along with hints of cocoa.
In general, this one reflects more of the port quality, as was clearly intended, being a showcase for dark fruity flavors.
My desert island whisky. Smooth as a velvet snake with a depth that allows a new flavour with every drop of water.
You can disagree but then we must duel. If you find you balk at the price, the Dalmore 12 offers a cheaper alternative. There are some elements of wood that detract from the experience.
Close to great, but not quite there. I have had three x 3cl of this in the last 12 months. Fruit cake and raisins, a beautiful long lingering aftertaste.
Pleasant but nothing outstanding or any lingering flavour. Somewhat harsh - had this 3cl not been supplied by Master of Malt I could have been tempted to query the contents?
Tasted like a supermarket blended whisky. All down to personal taste I suppose? I bought a bottle of Dalmore Valour in a duty free in Paris.
It was apparently a "travel exclusive". My favourite Dalmore by far. Found it much more smooth than the 18yr.
So sad, I cannot buy it regularly. This was my introduction bottle to a Highland region whisky and I must say it was a pleasant encounter.
This 18yr is not only is smooth and flavorful in which you shouldn''t underestimate its ability to smoother your palate. It makes you really appreciate the time spent on making such a fine whisky, especially aging it in 3 ways before bottled.
This used to be one of the best whiskies in the world, but after it turned into a cheap caramel colored alcoholic beverage which is good only for windscreen washing tank.
Every illegal gypsy distillery in Bulgaria produces better stuff. So mister Richard Paterson, go ahead, continue embarrassing yourself acting clown in idiotic TV shows and expect somebody to buy your crap.
Great presentation. I keep the box on my bookshelf. It looks like a book, so it keeps the bar raiders aka friends away. This whiskey really grew on me.
I didn't like it at first because with the sherry influence I was expecting the sweetness of a Glendronach, or the punch of a Macallan I didn't get that here.
It's a totally different beast all together. At first I felt it was flat and didn't offer much. However, after I drank a few more drams I started to pick up on the nut notes like walnuts, brazil nuts, and peanuts, and I fell in love.
It's definitely worth the money. Great dram. Something unexpected. I really love Dalmore's whiskies but honestly have to say that 15 yrs is even better than this Cigar malt lose in taste for both.
